I can’t believe summer is over . But oh well, I had fun though. Anyways, as most of you can see, DubUPee.com got redesigned. The question is why? I mean, you’re all probably wondering that, because I used to have a premium theme. Well, the truth is that one was very slow. I could see it when I used to open the blog myself. So because of the slowness of the theme, and because it was getting kind of old, I decided I was going to get another premium theme. And this is what I found. This one is actually a premium theme, but WooThemes is giving it away for free. (Thanks WooThemes)

This theme is definitely faster than the previous one, and it’s also very user-friendly, and it also has a very clean design. To tell you the truth, I really like it.

You might know that there are several plugins and themes for WordPress specifically for stores. But what ElegantThemes came up with, is totally genius. It’s actually just a theme, a very well and beautifully designed theme, that is able to use either one of the two plugins, that I’ll talk more about below.

The theme is called eStore, and was released by Elegant Themes just a couple of days ago. When I first read about it, my reaction was “Oh well, just another WordPress theme”. But boy, was I wrong about that.

The theme itself is just a regular WordPress theme, but has integrated with two plugins, and you have the option to choose only one. The two plugins are eShop, which is the more advanced shopping cart, and the Simple PayPal Shopping Cart, which is a very simple, but useful shopping cart. So if you decide to use either one of them, they will both work perfectly fine.

One of the great features of this theme is the Ecommerce Theme Settings, which allows you to easily add products. Adding a product is as simple as adding a new post.

This theme also comes with four (4) color options; Red, Green, Blue and Silver.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted here, but I’ve been very busy with school, and work. I’ve also been enjoying summer a lot. A lot of my time has also gone to the World Cup, which has been full of surprises so far. (Just so you know, I’m cheering for Germany). With all that aside, I’d like to say that WordPress 3.0 is out.

We’ve been waiting for this upgrade for a while now, and it’s finally here. Dub U Pee is also using 3.0 now. So what does that mean for the everyday blogger?

The everyday blogger

I know this version has been tested thousands of times before it was released, but just to be safe, I recommnet waiting for about a month or two before upgrading to the latest version. There are a lot of plugins that are not yet 3.0 compatible, so upgrading might cause them to stop functioning correctly. So that’s why I recommend waiting for a little bit. The same thing goes for the themes. This is very unlikely, but who knows, your theme might stop working. So just to be on the safe side, wait for about a month, that is if you can, of course.

The developer

Whether you’re a theme or plugin developer, that means that it’s time for you to upgrade your themes/plugins if you haven’t done so already. This is more for the plugins, not as much for the themes, although it would be nice if you updated them too. But for the plugins, you gotta make sure they work with the new version of WordPress.

As many people tend to say, unlimited everything is not really unlimited. But so far, I have about 20 websites that are live, and I have not had a problem with my services. My sites have never, ever been down because of my host.

When it comes to support, I think that JustHost support is the mos helpful support ever. They have helped me with so much stuff, I can’t even describe it. They will even help you with script installation, although they’re not getting paid to do that. One time, I had problems with installing a script, and I opened a ticket on their support, and my issue was solved within an hour.

Why am I telling you this? I’m not trying to promote JustHost or anything, I’m just telling you that you should be really really careful with choosing your host, because your site depends on it. ASK! Just ask! Go to popular forums, like DP for example, and ask for feedback. Because to be honest with you, all the companies are gonna tell you that you should go with them because they’re the best, but when you ask someone that has experience with it, then you know you’re getting the truth.

So basically, you enter your name and email on this page, then they let you use their end-less options to customize their themes to the fullest, and then when you’re done, if you like it, you buy it, if not, you don’t have to. This is a great thing they’re doing, and probably the first company to do so (at least the only one I know of).

This is more than a demo of the theme. Yes, the offer the demo too, but they also let you play with the backend of the theme. With the other themes, they can look great in the demo, but that’s because they’re customized by pros. If you’re new, you can’t customize eve a premium theme. This happened to me earlier. I purchased a theme, it looked great and all, but then I couldn’t make it look as “cool” as it showed on the demo. The options on the back-end were very limited; had only one option, to enter the feed url.

I’m pretty sure you all know how busy life can get at times. Well, as most of you might have noticed, I didn’t get a chance to finish the “31 Days of Coding”! I was very close though. I was two codes away from finishing it, and here I am, about 2 and a half weeks later.

So what I’m going to do, is I’m going to post the two codes that I missed, so that will complete the “puzzle”.

The first one is how to create short URLs for Twitter, which only allows 140 characters in their posts. Here’s how to do that:

On the functions.php file of your theme, paste the following code:

All you have to do is replace the url in the above code, and you’re all set.

The next code, and the last code of the “31 Days of Coding” series is the Administration notes. We will show you how to put administration notes in your posts, in other words, notes that only you and another admin can see. A regular visitor cannot see them. Paste the following in the functions.php file of your theme:
