Social Networking with Mingle

Have you ever won­dered how to cre­ated a social net­work­ing site using the most pow­er­ful blogging/CMS soft­ware on the planet, Word­Press? Well, Word­Press came up with the solu­tion, called Bud­dy­Press! Great! But in order to use Bud­dy­press, you need Word­PressMU, which in order to use to need VPS host­ing! But what if I told you that you can cre­ate a social net­work site with­out WPMU or Bud­dy­Press, using only one plu­gin? Well, you would prob­a­bly think I’m crazy. Well, I’m here to tell you that I’m not crazy.

Min­gle

So why should you use Min­gle, instead of Bud­dy­Press? It’s not because I’m telling you, to be hon­est with you, I’m doing this because I found this plu­gin really inter­est­ing, and it works like a charm. There is noth­ing I can gain from this. Min­gle uses stan­dard Word­Press themes, and it doesn’t require any other plu­g­ins, whereas Bud­dy­Press, you have to get cus­tomized themes.

As you can see in the com­par­i­son table above, I think that you would be bet­ter off going with Min­gle, rather than BuddyPress.

    Hi Kla­jdi,
    I just viewed your tuto­r­ial on how to use Min­gle and I’ll try it out in a day or so. You gave a good demo of the process and I think it was very help­ful. I hope that you or some­one demon­strates more how it actu­ally func­tions, but as we all know by the time I acti­vate it and play it will prob­a­bly become much clearer. Keep up the good work and I’ll look for­ward to see­ing more demon­stra­tions from you and news about Word Press.

    WOW! Talk about an AWESOME FIND! Has any­one come up with a list of plu­g­ins that com­pli­ments this one? These may include the likes of Face­book and twit­ter, a gallery, etc. I’m about to test this RIGHT NOW on a few demo and live sites I have.

    I am very new to both Word­Press and Min­gle. I am try­ing to set up Min­gle on Word­Press! I fol­lowed the instruc­tions on the tuto­r­ial at the link below:

    1– Installed Min­gle Plu­gin
    2– Cre­ated the fol­low­ing pages on Wor­press (Activ­ity, Direc­tory, Friends, –Request, login, profile,-Edit, Signup)
    3– Set up each of the pages that just cre­ate to the cor­re­spond­ing fields on Min­gle as instructed in the tuto­r­ial above
    4– Clicked on updated option

    Well, after these steps the tuto­r­ial says, “That is it! You are done!” But wait a min­utes noth­ing hap­pened to my word­press web­site! I do not know where I should go after that to set up a social net­work on Word­Press! So where can I see the social net­work that I was hop­ing I just cre­ated with Mingle?

    Maybe a link to your site will help Attaa­nia, but from what I’m under­stand­ing, you are done. Now you can go to the main page of your blog, and see all the pages and such. What you might wanna do is you wanna go to the Wid­gets, and then put the 2 Min­gle Wid­gets on the side­bar, or on the footer, or wher­ever you would like.

    But if you’ve fol­lowed the instruc­tions, and seems like you did, you’re all set. check out http://test.dubupee.com, that’s what it looks like.
