Social Networking with Mingle
Have you ever wondered how to created a social networking site using the most powerful blogging/CMS software on the planet, WordPress? Well, WordPress came up with the solution, called BuddyPress! Great! But in order to use Buddypress, you need WordPressMU, which in order to use to need VPS hosting! But what if I told you that you can create a social network site without WPMU or BuddyPress, using only one plugin? Well, you would probably think I’m crazy. Well, I’m here to tell you that I’m not crazy.
Mingle
So why should you use Mingle, instead of BuddyPress? It’s not because I’m telling you, to be honest with you, I’m doing this because I found this plugin really interesting, and it works like a charm. There is nothing I can gain from this. Mingle uses standard WordPress themes, and it doesn’t require any other plugins, whereas BuddyPress, you have to get customized themes.
[TABLE=2]
As you can see in the comparison table above, I think that you would be better off going with Mingle, rather than BuddyPress.

Hi Klajdi,
I just viewed your tutorial on how to use Mingle and I’ll try it out in a day or so. You gave a good demo of the process and I think it was very helpful. I hope that you or someone demonstrates more how it actually functions, but as we all know by the time I activate it and play it will probably become much clearer. Keep up the good work and I’ll look forward to seeing more demonstrations from you and news about Word Press.
Good luck with your blog and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

WOW! Talk about an AWESOME FIND! Has anyone come up with a list of plugins that compliments this one? These may include the likes of Facebook and twitter, a gallery, etc. I’m about to test this RIGHT NOW on a few demo and live sites I have.
Thanks again!

I am very new to both WordPress and Mingle. I am trying to set up Mingle on WordPress! I followed the instructions on the tutorial at the link below:
http://dubupee.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/mingle.swf
1– Installed Mingle Plugin
2– Created the following pages on Worpress (Activity, Directory, Friends, –Request, login, profile,-Edit, Signup)
3– Set up each of the pages that just create to the corresponding fields on Mingle as instructed in the tutorial above
4– Clicked on updated option
Well, after these steps the tutorial says, “That is it! You are done!” But wait a minutes nothing happened to my wordpress website! I do not know where I should go after that to set up a social network on WordPress! So where can I see the social network that I was hoping I just created with Mingle?

Maybe a link to your site will help Attaania, but from what I’m understanding, you are done. Now you can go to the main page of your blog, and see all the pages and such. What you might wanna do is you wanna go to the Widgets, and then put the 2 Mingle Widgets on the sidebar, or on the footer, or wherever you would like.
But if you’ve followed the instructions, and seems like you did, you’re all set. check out http://test.dubupee.com, that’s what it looks like.

Hello!
There is a widget for that, so you can just put it in your sidebar… Btw, I just saw on your site that you already have that on the sidebar… Please let me know if you still have any questions/problems.
